What happens to the data on your old laptop
The biggest worry we hear: “It won’t even switch on, so how do I delete my photos?” You don’t have to. Here is what we do with every laptop:
- Laptops that work are wiped completely and Windows or macOS is reinstalled before anything is reused.
- Laptops that are dead, or drives that can’t be wiped, have the hard drive or SSD taken out and physically destroyed.
- Want to keep the drive? Tell us at booking. We’ll remove it at pickup and hand it to you.
- Your certificate records it: the Green Certificate lists the laptops collected and notes the data destruction.

Before pickup: 4 quick things
- Back up photos and documents to a pen drive or cloud.
- Sign out of Microsoft, Google and Apple ID. On a Mac, turn off Find My.
- Take out pen drives, SD cards and any paper with passwords.
- Keep the charger with it. Working laptops with chargers are quoted higher.
